Five for Friday & Vote for a Freebie!

It almost seemed like it was never going to happen...

The most wonderful edition of Five for Friday
hosted by Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching!

The Friday before SPRING BREAK!!!

Here's what we were up to this week!

5. Party Like a Reading Rockstar!

At breakfast on Thursday morning, my students
in my Power Hour received one of these:

Haha, you would have thought this was the golden ticket (which gives me an idea for next time)! Blue and green refer to our color chart, which has seen a rainbow of colors this week before break.
I should have snapped a picture at 12:20 when my group lined up for Power Hour...they were all waving these little purple tickets - so cute!

4. Here's the BIG party:

What do you think? A few teachers poked fun at my party items! But my little group can't lose a day of learning, so our party was all about centers! These were centers they hadn't seen before and they got to use them with friends. They used the playdough to sculpt CVC words, had a chance to "be the teacher" with my long vowel Princess and Power Ranger cards, opened balls with CVC word building, and played PBS Kids on the computers. At the end, they received a fun treat and these. It was so much fun!

3. Regrouping

My week was all about regrouping and schwa again! I was literally rotating groups to go over these concepts, over and over. The wonderful news - I think they got it!! Here's a quick pic of what our regrouping looks like:

We use the grids to help set up our problems, use a picture to help us remember to solve the ones place first, a chant to regroup, and then we check our work to see if it made sense. There are also gestures, funny voices, and more chants if we get stuck, etc.
Multi-sensory math for my group!

2. Here's a peek of what I used for schwa:

These adorable eggs & chick were a freebie from Collaboration Cuties! I just put the entire spring set in my cart - so cute! I made a set of text cards with color-coded schwa and matching pictures (activity pack coming soon!) and then used the Easter-themed cards to play a game of Blast. I used this for the "bad" card:

"UH-oh!" Get it?
For every schwa, we were saying "our eyes see a/e/i/o, but our ears hear "UH."My students were convinced I ate the chocolate ear. This bunny graphic comes from Teaches Third in Georgia
(♥ her!).

1. Please Vote!

As I put the finishing touches on my schwa activity pack this weekend, I'd love to hear what theme you would like to see for the Blast game (my students' favorite!). I'm swapping out Easter to incorporate a year-round theme that has the schwa sound. Please leave a comment  and an email address to vote! If I use your suggestion, I'll ask for your email & send you the entire packet for free!  Herre's what I've narrowed it down to:

Pizza Theme - graphics from Revi Devi

Panda Safari - graphics from Scrappin' Doodles

Panda Loves Cookies - graphics from Scrappin' Doodles

Pencils! - graphics from Melonheadz

& the last one:

Robots - from Mom-Angels Designs

I think I already know which one my students would vote for, but I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment and I should announce the final choice (& email out the winners) on Sunday!
I can't wait to hear from you! If you would like to become a follower, I wouldn't mind either :)
Have a super Friday!!
