Happy TGIF!
I wasn't sure this day was ever going to arrive!
I cracked up when I saw this on Mrs.Will's blog:
Hope you all have an amazing Friday and holiday weekend!
Our school has "jeans" day and we let out early...I should be able to hop in my car to drive home by 3:30!
I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for
an extremely random 5 for Friday:
5. Dropbox
I did it! I upgraded my dropbox! I'm now in the process of uploading EVERYTHING and merging my laptop and desktop. The little icon says it needs 11 more days to finish uploading. Yesterday, it said 16...so I'm either really getting good sleep or it was slightly overestimating the amount of clipart I have.
Any tips for tackling the organization? It's one of my Christmas break projects. I have an idea for folders, but it still involves renaming almost every file I own!
If there's a faster way, please share!
4. Goodbye Justin Bieber!
Justin was with us for such a short time, but it was very special! This is the first year I caved decided to try out the elf and I'm completely sold! My students were 100% on board and their writing?!? I've never seen an entire class as focused on writing in their journals to capture what JB did that day. It was awesome to observe! I cannot wait to do it again next year!
3. RAK
On Monday, J-Beebs brought us this RAK Pack and we learned how to spread random acts of kindness throughout the school. It was our daily activity and I thought it would be nice and sweet. Oh my goodness...I didn't realize how WONDERFUL this project could be. It literally teared me up to watch these firsties spread RAK and feel so proud of themselves! Next year, RAK will be the MAIN focus of December. Actually, I don't think I'm going to wait until next year. It was definitely the highlight of the season.
2. Common Core Math
There was a collective sigh of relief yesterday during math as we introduced Place Value. This is something my small group could grasp and be successful with! At first, I was worried because I had to keep instruction almost 100% teacher-directed:
We practiced over and over with different amounts 10-19. I was thinking I wasn't going to be able to "release" the activity to student partners, but then this happened:
They got it! The student partners had the opportunity to do several numbers and they did it! I was able to sit still and observe the magic. Hallelujah! Afterwards, they kept on saying how much they loved that "game" - me, too!
1. Leveled Literacy Instruction
My last post showed a graph of my Guided Reading levels this year. Kelly left a comment (thank you!) that got me thinking. I wanted to share my latest update to LLI:
There's currently a half-page writing response for the first 21 lessons...so far! Please click here to download your own set!
Be sure to follow me to get the lastest updates as we move on through the series.
I'm linking up this freebie with Teaching Blog Addict
Have a wonderful day!
