Happy Tuesday!
I wasn't sure if I was going to have the opportunity to blog this week - it's such a busy time! But I'm also all for procrastinating right now, so blogging was calling my name :)
What types of "busy" have you been up to in preparation for the new school year?
We are rolling out a new curriculum (Core Knowledge for ELA) and fine-tuning our Eureka Math and Second Steps (Social-Emotional) curricula. In addition, I'm also preparing for Guided Reading and thinking about how we are going to meet our students' needs through intervention. Busy, but exciting!
Tomorrow, we are training using
I highly recommend this book! It may not feel like new material, but it's a great refresher. It seems to streamline the process, which helps us gain more time focusing on what's important ♥
At our school, we don't actually start Guided Reading until October. By that time, we have settled in and learned more about our students. Although we won't "officially" start, we still build in the routine of Guided Reading right away, i.e.: learning about centers and rotations.
This week, I'm presenting a PD on "Low Lift" Guided Reading centers focused on Writing, Word Work, and Independent Reading. The plan is to leave the session with several ideas that can quickly be put into place using materials we already have in our classrooms.
Here's a sneak peek:
(Our school has a subscription to Reading A-Z)
:)
The audience is mixed...veterans who are Guided Reading gurus and newer teachers. What types of activities would you like to learn more about?
Have a super week! Jen
