Happy Tuesday!
I hope your week is off to a smooth start!
Our students are back and I've been busy assessing and learning more about our first graders. Although I feel a bit sad missing out on all the Back to School fun, I LOVE collecting baseline data. I try to make it as engaging as possible and use the time to build relationships. And the information we collect!  My mind is whirling with the possibilities.
The key word this year?

My little friends are struggling with letter identification, letter sounds, rhyming, blending, counting...but they are NOT struggling with motivation. These guys seem to love learning and there's NO WAY I'm going to mess that up :)
But I do have to seriously think about how I'm going to fit all of these interventions they need (and they are not all the same), while also honoring the general education curriculum. 
I will be tracking progress and involving the students as much as possible in a developmentally appropriate manner (visuals!).
Last week, I shared this on Instagram:

A teacher at my school had taken one of my Grit Trackers and blown it up as a poster for reference! In past years, I've always built individual binder/notebooks for my students based on their needs. I'm definitely stealing this idea :)

I also incorporate a sight word sticker tracker with my small groups. I have a little system of having my students practice together (peer tutoring), while I check in with each student individually  - it only takes about 1 minute per student to check and update their tracker. 5 students = 5 minutes!

I also included a parent letter to help them support their child at home.
