TGIF!
Happy Five for Friday!
I love linking up with Kacey every week...
it's keeping my blog awake these days, lol.
I'm having a BLAST with my firsties this year!
Last year was ALL behavior and sensory,
this year is all about BOOT CAMP basic skills and FUN.
Here's a peek:
SLINKIES!
I read about this idea from the amazing Deanna Jump! My students were all about segmenting (easy for them!) and then blending (ouch!) using this stretchy tool.
No worries, our SLP (♥) and I are working on it!
Quick note: I bought a set of primary-colored slinkies from Amazon. They were so cute, but BROKE easily. Next, I bought the "original" silver - it's perfect for teacher modeling. Then I saw a package of mini Halloween slinkies at Rite Aid. There were 8 (I think?) in a bag and were $3.50, then 50% off. DEAL! I bought a few bags and was able to send one home with each student in my small group :)
We started CKLA this year for ELA! It's our first year implementing, so we are participating in content meetings 10 2 times per week ;) It's definitely an easy-to-follow curriculum, but there's a learning curve since our first graders didn't use it in kindergarten.
As a special educator offering intervention for ELA, I just started a PLC to focus on remediation, extensions...and anything else our team needs! The picture above is one of the resources I created for Unit One. I segment the word and my students have to blend it, then find the corresponding picture. Fun for them, but also very revealing on how they are applying their blending skills!
I just finished the resource packet for Unit Two and will be rolling it out to the team today! Someday, I will post all 7 units. Someday :)
Of course, we had some spooky fun in Math, too:
I really have no words to explain this one!
I will say, I did not have to refocus any students during this lesson and they ALL demonstrated mastery using the number path for subtraction :)
Thank you for reading!
Have a fabulous weekend!
