Welcome & Thank You Freebie!

Welcome to all my followers!
I'm SO excited you're here! I remember the days (last November) when I felt like I was only writing for my mother (hi Mom!). If you were also here during those lonely days, thanks for sticking with me!!

So I wanted to share this INCREDIBLE game I learned from a colleague..."Slap!"  This awesome teacher actually taught me "Stomp!" but one of my little guys can't fully participate, so we adapted it!

Here's how you play...grab your favorite set of flashcards (math, literacy, you-name-it) and display 4-6 (depending on group, concept, or level) cards on the floor or table. Teacher calls out one of the cards to "slap," i.e.: "Slap the word 'slide'!" and whoever gets their little hand there first "wins" and moves on to the next player. I keep the game moving as fast as possible so no feelings have a chance to get hurt.  The game goes around the small group, similar to "Around the World." It's so fun & motivating - my students BEG me to play, YAY!

Here's a cute photo of the game in action:

Isn't that the sweetest? The little girl on the left "earned" the game & was able to choose a friend to play a sight word version of "Slap," (she crushed her, what a good friend!).

We have 19 days of school left here & we aren't wasting a single second. It's all about spiral review & we've been working with inital blends in my small group interventions. Of course, I'm capitalizing on my students' love of this game & created a newer themed version. Most of my students are boys & they have been loving these graphics I found from www.printcandee.com !! Now that this set is student-approved, I just loaded it up to my TPT store...right here!

As a thank you to all my followers, here's a freebie just for you!

Now that my students have been mastering these words, I've been using the poster as a recap..."pick your favorite word to read!" Works like a charm :)

  2. Love your "Slap" version. We have used fly-backgrounds with sight words on them... and have a fly-attack game with our highlighted sight words. This is cute!
