...actually it's more like 6, 7, 8 :)
It's the first round of interim assessments! Students have been "showing what they know" in all subject areas, including enrichment, ALL week! That's EIGHT assessments for my little 1st graders!
I adminster the assessments in small groups in my office/intervention space. I very, very rarely use tangible rewards for student behavior...until this week. It literally saved me! My prize bag consisted of only pencils, pencil grips, & erasers, but it got the job done!
I pull the small groups in order to provide the following accommodations:
extended time
reduced distractions to student
reduced distractions to other students
verbatim
scribe
With the differences in accommodations, I give each assessment a minimum of 5 times apiece. I'd SO rather be teaching & can't wait for next week!
I can't always schedule the pull-out assessments to occur at the same time the rest of the class is taking their assessment (due to being in more than one classroom), so I have to get creative:
I made individual students bags consisting of a book, a ring of Ms. D's cards (i.e.: game cards, flashcards, etc.), and activity pages (a.k.a. worksheets). My students LOVED the bags & I received positive feedback from the classroom teachers that they were happily busy while other students were taking the test.
I also made a testing sign for my office door:
There's 2 versions: "we are showing what we know!" and "we are hard at work!" To pick up both copies, click HERE!
Happy (almost) Friday!
Love the sign! Going to use it for sure come testing time :)
