Sometimes it just takes an extra day off...
This weekend I've started spring cleaning! I'm not actually "cleaning," but instead streamlining. I'm always looking for ways to make my life EASIER. I love teaching, but it's all those "extras" that seem to derail my best-laid plans.
Those "extras" is actually one of the main reasons I started creating products for my students. I was spending tons of money on resources that weren't exactly right for my students. There are so many terrific ideas and creative products, but sometimes I just needed a different font, size, color... I imagine that my position (special education) has a lot to do with my extreme pickiness. I've had to redo the majority of my own materials to meet my students' unique needs!
So now I'm facing a basement FULL of teaching supplies.
Some materials are prepped and ready to go, some are printed/laminated but not yet cut, and some are stll hibernating on my computer waiting patiently to be printed! I have now run into the newest problem of finding something "almost perfect" and storing it until I have the opportunity to adjust it for my students. The way I'm going that won't be happening until 2016!
So I've begun the process of giving things away. It's been SO hard! I'm still thinking of scanning everything & investing in dropbox before I finally pitch it. I may also clean up my pinboards to store these ideas. Has anyone successfully tackled this type of project?
One tool I recently re-discovered (in my TPT purchases):
This gem is a must-have! Be sure to also check out Jodi's blog for more inspirational ideas, visuals, & resources to help you become more organized! Her 2013 CF Project featuring completely do-able challenges kick-started my spring-cleaning!
My printer is busy right now. This packet offers pages to keep all your blog posts, giveaways, stats, and ideas organized in a logical fashion (plus it's cute!). I appreciate the b/w pages to print once, then copy before storing in a binder. She also offers a LARGE variety of both color and b/w binder covers that feature lively prints and borders. However, I've recently fallen in love with Jen Jones's chalkboard pages, plus wanted to personalize my cover to feature my blog:
Please stay tuned for this huge organizational project! If you know of any fabulous products (even your own!), please comment here and let us all know, thanks!
UPDATE: The fun part of my cleaning project included sprucing up my workspace. I tend to be extremely minimalistic (a.k.a.: boring), so this was a HUGE step for the uncrafty me:

It's sort of a bulletin board/backdrop for my computer desk. Previously I had an inbox tray filled with a bunch of positive quotes written on post-it notes! Give it time...I have a stack of sticky notes standing by :)
Have a terrific Monday!
Great plan for the day! I definitely need to do some organizing today too! When I found TPT I made the mistake of creating a "TPT downloads" folder on my computer. Since I teach SPED with 3 grade levels, that's A LOT of REALLY random stuff in one computer folder!
ReplyDeletePlus, I have ZERO file cabinets in my classroom so my file folders sit on a book shelf. I brought them home and got binders for the subject related, then I bought file folder/tub plastic organizers for the holiday stuff and objects that go with my units. It's currently sitting on my bedroom floor... I did the buying yesterday and should do the organizing today? Note the word "should" haha!

YES! That's exactly it! Teaching special education, you never know what you'll need from one year to the next! I've never had space to store things until this year (we moved into a different building). I already have plans for putting in storage for next year. Good luck with the tubs & organizers - you should take pictures!

LOVE this idea! My computer has been feeling very scattered and full lately!

Exactly, between all the files I've downloaded and my triple-digit TPT wishlist holding all my freebies...I hardly know what I have or need anymore. It's been fun going through things though - I'm finding some terrific units!
