Five for Friday!

It's time for Five for Friday with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching!

This is a weekly linky featuring 5 random moments from the week. Random is the key word for this post! You've been warned!

1. We had a snow day on Wednesday!! The first snow day in two years! The best part...it DIDN'T SNOW. At all. Nothing. So I was able to leave the house, go to the gym, go shopping, get coffee, etc. Basically it was a rainy day off! It was FABULOUS!

2. A midweek day off is great for teachers, but not so easy on my little friends. My school provides so much structure for behavior, schedules, and meals. Thursday (the day after) was a bit on the wild side. I was sneaking them Goldfish crackers to hold them until lunch. My students are also famous for falling asleep.  Any tips on keeping students awake??

I swear I'm NOT a boring teacher!!

3. A little bad news - I have an ear infection :(  I'm finally going to Minute Clinic today. I have a wonderful doctor, but he's difficult to get an appointment with. The Minute Clinic in the city is a busy teacher's dream! My wacky ear issue made F & P testing a little tough this week ("What? Can you repeat that?"). Yesterday, everything sounded amplified. So my students had to play the bubble game to help me out:

The little girl was "in it to win it" & I had to remind her it was okay to breath. Look at her determination to keep that bubble! The little boy lasted about 10 seconds, ha!

4. Speaking of F & P, I have some WONDERFUL news to share!!! I tested students in my Power Hour (reading intervention group) and several students grew 3 or 4 levels!!! I also had a student who hadn't grown yet this year move from D to E!
We celebrated BIG time!

5. My last random fact is a TPT Treasure I'm super-excited about!

I have to admit, this is how my math manipulatives are often used:

(I have no idea what the bears were supposed to be doing here)

But next year...watch out! With Lesson Plan Diva's incredible pack of action cards, my students will have endless math tasks to explore. They are so creative & fun, I will probably still use them as earned "rewards," as well as for math work stations. Check them out here! Read about more TPT Treasures I've found by clicking on the label to the right, or follow this pinboard.

Have a super weekend!
