This Girl's on Fire!

Happy Monday!

Hope you had a terrific start to your week!
My day was wacky & awesome all rolled into one.

Here are the highlights:

1. One of my students moved from Guided Reading Level D to G today!!! We celebrated by taking her picture and texting it to her former kindergarten teachers, writing a note to mom, and telling just about everybody in the school. God Bless the janitors, other students' parents, lunch helpers, etc. They were so excited for her!

2. My Guided Reading group played a quick round of Long Vowel All-Stars. The word "fire" came up & one of my students (a little boy) broke into Girl on Fire (thank goodness not the Nicki Minaj version). MY. FAVORITE.SONG!!

3. I caused a little uproar with this today:
Do you see the resemblance??

What?? You don't see it? Neither did I, but my students were SO excited I had drawn Patrick for them! The real story is that I have a super-sensitive student and I was grading his exit ticket and couldn't remember if his teacher gave stars or smilies for great effort, so I combined them to cover all angles. My students ♥ it & it's much easier for me than a stamp or sticker :)

4. My wonderful co-teacher added hand motions to vocabulary this week & my group of students really went to town with it.
One of the words this week is "observant."
So, this is how most of my lessons looked today:

I'll take it!

5. Lastly, just for sticking with this post & helping me celebrate my day...here's a freebie to help celebrate your students:
