Bollywood, Newts, and TPT Treasures!

Bollywood, Newts, and TPT Treasures!
What an intriguing combination!

Last Friday was International Day at our school. Students rotated between activities organized by our school's enrichment team. I only was able to catch two stations and they. Were. AMAZING! I was so excited for our students to be participating, learning, and enjoying all the different cultures.

It was pure awesome watching the first graders learn how to dance like Bollywood! I have a fun video I can't seem to upload, so here's a still-shot:

The other station had the students making
empanadas from playdough - yum!

This year, our Comprehension is linked closely to our Writing Units. While exploring informational text, we read Eating the Alphabet by Lois Ehlert (terrific book!). As a coordinating writing project, we are creating an informational book by researching animals A-Z, and following all the stages of writing. There's only 25 students, so I was assigned the letter N...for newt:

I didn't even know what a newt was! But luckily, I have an iphone and a very talented student teacher who was able to provide a realistic illustration!

Now onto my latest TPT Treasure!

Over the weekend I found a wonderful resource that I knew had to be mine A.S.A.P. I'm pretty sure I said "Genius!" aloud when I first saw this:

The picture is for the first 100, but this link will take you to the bundle of the first 300 words, plus extra fluency task cards! The cards are from the fabulous Angelia Grimes Graeme (here's her store!). I would ♥ to chat with her someday because she seems to have a job exactly like mine!

The cards are available in color AND black and white. I chose the B/W on colored paper to save ink. Speaking of ink, I finally got a new printer two weeks ago. It ROCKS because it actually prints what I ask it to, plus uses inexpensive HP cartridges.
The only problem is this:

This is what happens when I hit print and walk away. My new printer practically shoots the paper across my office!
BTW,  those are the new Fry phrase cards ♥

Please click the link on the right to learn more about TPT Treasures I adore. I'd love to hear about treasures you've found, too!

Have a super week!
