CC: 1 Me: 0

Whoa...it's Sunday already!

I have SO much to share, literally months' worth of blog posts, teaching ideas, and freebies lined up, but life keeps happening and then it's Sunday again!

The first grade team has been tackling Common Core head on and sadly, at least for me, CC beat me this week. It was that Making 10 strategy! We tried it Wednesday and ouch...that's all I will say. I spent Wednesday pm reworking it and again Thursday early morning. Thursday was the day Common Core totally laughed at me and my efforts. It was one of those days. But the good news? I thrive being the underdog and I have now spent the entire weekend getting ahead of this and I'm READY!

Common Core...It's ON!

Because it's already November 10, all my resources have some type of Turkey connection :)

I started throwing it all into my Don't Eat Tom! Thanksgiving Activity Pack, but I also saved a few things to offer as freebies! If you already own this pack from last year (thank you!), please redownload to scoop up the 37 new pages of activities!

One of the many new activities is a bulletin board display/craftivity my students LOVED:

Poor turkey looks like he was caught in a windstorm!

As part of my arsenal to tackle CC head on this week, I stopped at Michael's and found these:

I ♥ this paper! Michael's ROCKS with colored cardstock. $3.99 (before coupons/discounts) and the colors are AWESOME!
I may have purchased more than 10 packs ;)

And maybe it was the week I just had, but I immediately thought "Genius!" when I saw the autumn-colored pom-poms. I'll be using them for math manipulatives and I can hear it now...wait a minute, I can't hear anything because they are SILENT! Aaahhh...

Now I'm super-excited for Monday!

If you'd like to snag some adorable turkey number bonds (clipart from Poppydreamz Digital Art), please click here:

This freebie set is for missing parts for making 10. For a complete set (missing parts to 10, sums to 10 - more than 100 cards!),
I just uploaded it in my store for $2.50!

I'd love to hear about your Common Core victories!
Please leave a comment to share some tried and true tips, thanks!

  1. I can't wait to use these with my first graders.
My school is aligned with common core but we haven't had to tag the standards yet in our lessons.
This year we were to get our feet wet with it so next year we would be using it.
I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time so I don't have any tips but I agree tip on it would be wonderful:)
