Time Savers Linky

Blog Hoppin' is throwing a week long linky party!

Today is T for Time Savers
something I'm sure all of us can relate to!

My biggest time saver is cooking ahead. Like way ahead. I can't see myself cooking dinner every night, yet I still want something delicious when I walk in the door. I workout like crazy everyday, so I'm usually in some state of hunger and want to keep it Whole 30 healthy. Bonus: it's also a lot less expensive to cook in bulk!

This is my BFF:

Here's my usual go-to's:

* Ground Turkey Breast - I cook up HUGE quantities of turkey breast mixed with taco seasoning and then freeze it in one portion sizes. I prefer to cook it in a skillet, but will also make meatballs or use the crockpot to save even more time.

* Chicken Breast - I will throw it all in a crockpot and let it cook all day with any dry seasonings I have on hand. Then I will shred it and keep it on simmer for about one hour. I scoop it into one-serving size containers and freeze.

I use the ground turkey breast and chicken breast to make a quick taco salad or chili. I always keep a large covered bowl of spinach washed and ready in my fridge at all times.

Other staples in my freezer include Gorton's grilled fish fillets, jumbo frozen shrimp, and Steam Fresh Broccoli/Cauliflower. These can easily be thawed and thrown together in a skillet or on a salad for a 5-minute meal. If it's a running day (which means I'm starving even more than usual), I'll toss a protein and veggies in a  small skillet and add one whole egg/egg whites for more protein and calories.

When I cook, I usually end up with a couple months' worth of servings. I make a huge assembly line, blare some good music, and get it all done at the same time. Since the one-serving containers are so small, I place about 30 of them in one of the Hefty jumbo freezer bags to keep them from going everywhere. It also makes it easier to see when I need to go to Sam's and buy more!

Other quick and healthy tips: I keep the 100 calorie packs of almonds, tuna pouches, and hard-boiled eggs on hand for easy snacks.

Now I'm heading back to Blog Hoppin' to check out everyone else's ideas!

Have a wonderful evening :)

  1. I keep saying I want to start cooking meat and have it in the freezer ready to go, I just never get to it. you sound so organized. I know we would eat out a lot less if had somethings already cooked. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I love that you talked about food. I think as a teacher it is a MUST to own a crockpot. Thank you for this post and the link to the Whole 30! : )
