Celebration Freebie!

Our last day is June 17th...getting closer!

This past quarter, our 1st/2nd grade interventionist and I teamed up to focus on the bottom quartile of below-grade-level readers. We joined forces and focused our efforts on these 20+ almost-second graders. Poor thing...they had no idea what they were in for!

We had to be a bit creative with our scheduling. As the interventionist, my partner-in-crime co-teacher had many SET (equivalent to RTI)  meetings to facilitate and I couldn't always be present due to IEP meetings. We often found ourselves teaching this group without our "better half." With all the "big personalities" we were dealing with (that were often impeding learning for both themselves and others), we were facing a potential problem.

Solution: 4th Graders

My co-teacher had the brilliant idea of connecting with the 4th grade team in order to have 3 older students visit us each day. We provided these junior teachers with Guided Reading books and they worked with students who were at independent centers (which were not extremely effective with this particular group). If you walked into our Power Hour, you would see two teachers pulling groups of 5-6 students and three older students working with student pairs. It was busy and a bit noisier than I would have liked, but it WORKED! We are wrapping up our final F&P assessments and the results are amazing :)

This week we invited our 4th graders to celebrate their hard work with a lunch in their honor:

I printed these out with specific details (when/where) using assorted colored cardstock and we distributed them out to the 4th graders. Please click here to download your own copy to celebrate those who have helped you throughout the school year!

Have a wonderful day!
