Happy Five for Friday!
I hope you had a fantastic week :)
I'm linking up with Angela from The Daily Alphabet for:
We are wrapping up our 4th week of school and we've been BUSY! My month of getting to know and work with my new caseload continues to be full of surprises. While last year was all about putting pencil to paper to build our stamina, this year has been all about behavior charts and supports.
Yesterday marked a victory as I saw this gem:
Yes, that would be the silent bathroom signal. And that also would be considered a victory for Week 4. Because I have quickly learned to call victories where I can find them :)
Is there a Common Core Standard for that?!?

I'm also linking up with Kacey from Doodle Bugs Teaching
to share about my week:
5. Target Score!
Have you seen this?
It must have been in the little house-hardware section (I was looking at the decorative duct tape!). It took all my willpower to only pick up the zebra print...there was also cheetah. I'm currently using it as a sort of airport-runway-guiding-light, but with this week's comprehension book instead of airplanes. How would you incorporate this cute flashlight?
4. Picture Schedule
I'm working with a little crew who thrive on routines. Actually, they seem to thrive on breakfast, lunch, and snack :) The picture schedule above has been helpful in letting them know when the next meal is coming. Here's our typical conversation when using the schedule:
"First Comprehension...then snack!"
"First Phonics....then lunch!"
First Spiral Review...then snack!"
By the way, our school only offers one snack in the afternoon. One of my students also gets an additional snack provided by his one-on-one (para). She's the BEST!
Since I'm teaching in three different spaces, the picture schedule has to mobile. I used a 3-ring binder and velcro to create it. Simply print a table (one page for morning and one page for afternoon) and insert into binder covers. Next, add Velcro for each block. I created both picture and text cards (or you could put them on the same card). I added a pencil pouch inside the binder to store all the cards. We can use a dry erase marker to represent the time on the clock. Please let me know if you have any questions about this picture schedule. I've found it to be very successful and easy to carry along wherever we go. I plan on writing a blogpost with more details soon!
3. Who Am I?
I'm not going to sugarcoat it...this school year has presented a TON of challenges. I've always seen myself as a "teacher," sounds reasonable, right? But this year...even in week 4, I hardly feel like I've had the opportunity to "teach" yet, at least in an academic sense :( So when I saw this on IG and have to repost:
2. Get Your Pretty On
We are wrapping up Week 2 of Get Your Pretty On's Work You Wear Challenge. It's been SO much fun and very helpful to have a friendly reminder to put some effort into taking care of ourselves during this busy time. Please click here to review past outfits...
& here's the latest:
1. Dragon Boats!
Every other year, Baltimore's Inner Harbor becomes inundated with dragons...
It's such a fun event to attend and a great cause to support local charities. I can't wait!
What are you doing this weekend?
Thanks for reading, Jen
The schedule is such a neat idea! And I can relate to the constantly hungry students, the first week of school was filled with them asking every five seconds when was lunch :)
