Teacher Week: Wednesday!

It's already Wednesday! Woohoo!

Not that I'm not LOVING this week (except dismissal - WOW!)

It's been so fun seeing the students return and welcoming new students. They bring SO much energy to the building!

It's back to the blink-and-you-miss-it pace where I wake up & it's already December. Does anyone else feel that way?
Time FLIES once August arrives.

I was actually going to skip this day of the linky party, because I haven't shared my blog or TPT store with my colleagues. I'm also not sure if I should name the school on this blog since my position deals with so many confidential details.

So I'm going to describe where I teach :)

These are the stats for the specific city neighborhood
(I grabbed these from a PPT presentation for PD):

We are a public school serving K-3
(we add 4th grade next year).

The school just moved about two miles to a larger building. We share the school with a middle school (5-8th).

The % of children born to kids age 10-17 is 30% more than the city average.

Median household income is $7,000 less than the city and more than $26,000 less than the state.

HIV, drug use, and homicide are among the top 6 causes of death.

Pretty heavy stuff.

But what these stats don't reflect is how RESILIENT the neighborhood is! So many of the residents are working with our school to turn these stats around. Our greatest mission is to provide the children with a solid education so they can go to AND through college. We do our best to teach the whole family (& they teach us, too!). The work is intense as we are "moving mountains," but it's also amazing to see even the smallest positive changes. This is only my 3rd year there (previously taught in the suburbs) and to say it's life-changing is quite an understatement :)

I could go on and on about our school, but I really need to log off so I can get there to see the students!

Have a super day!
