Throwback Thursday & Freebies!

I'm excited to share this Throwback Thursday with you!

Thank you Cara from The First Grade Parade!
(Be sure to check out her post using the link above - adorable!)

It's been a busy, but fantastic week! I've been working on my office since Saturday and it's almost picture-worthy - I'm really excited! Stay tuned to see my new and improved space. Although I miss my old office mate dearly, my new partner-in-crime is absolutely the sweetest educator who seems as crazy excited about teaching as I am. I'm very lucky!

This Throwback Thursday is all about assessment...something that is constantly on my mind before teaching, during teaching, when I'm trying to fall asleep...please read below & be sure to grab the freebies!

Pinch Me!

Pinch me! I just reached 400 followers at my TPT store! It had been hovering at 399 for the last 24 hours  - thank you for all your support :)

Actually the "Pinch Me" refers to one of my FAVORITE & fun ways to check for understanding...

But first, check out this cutie!

Our fresh fruit & veggie of the week was broccoli! We ask all of our students to "be brave" and at least try it. Here's one of my students contemplating, then tasting her serving. She loved it!

The sports card in front of her was the EPR we were using for phonemic awareness. I'll ask students to listen to 2 sounds (i.e.: /ch/ and /th/) to distinguish if the sounds are the same or different. If it seems easy, try mixing up initial, medial, and final sounds. You may be surprised of how many students may get them confused!

EPRs (Every Pupil Responds) are one of my favorite assessment tools because EVERY student can respond at the same time. A.K.A. "pinch cards" because students can hold the card and "pinch" the correct answer. I have also used them with popsicle sticks - holding them up like they're at an auction. My group is SO not ready for that, yet ;)

I made a sports theme just because & then got a little carried away (possibly in order to avoid paperwork) & made a TON more:

Please be sure to show some ♥ to www.classroomfreebies.com - the site is celebrating its FIRST birthday! I visit daily as a contributor & as a teacher looking for tried & true tips!! If you've never checked it out, you're in for such a treat! Enjoy!!

Back to August 2013...

When you download the freebie above, you'll notice the cards have recently been updated and there are also additional characters (tryin' to please my people, a.k.a. 6-year-olds)

I just created some new "bubble" cards to use in other subject areas and prepare my students for future bubbling. These cards can be printed and "pinched," or laminated to use with a dry erase marker:

I know my students will enjoy using them, and be getting useful practice :)

Happy almost-TGIF!

  1. It's nice when kids actually like the 'something different' they try : )
