It's finally here!
The Style Me Blogger series is back for 2015!
Daily Style Finds | Sheila's Potpourri | Puppies and Pretties | She thought She Could
Foxy's Domestic Side | Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After | Sprinkled Just Right I'm so thankful to have met this wonderful group :) We are kicking the new year off with a little shopping from our closets... You most definitely DO NOT want to see my closet, so I scrolled my camera roll to bring out my favorites:
This is an"old" dress that I've brought out the last few years. Just a no-brainer pullover sweater dress that I wear with leggings (comfy) and slouch boots. Perfect for working with the firsties while still looking presentable enough to sit through a long meeting ;)
Here's a "dressy sweatshirt" I bought for the Fall Style Me Challenge. I probably wouldn't have purchased it otherwise, but I'm glad I did! The white shirt is actually attached...another simple pull-over for this special educator - win!
This black vest is "borrowed," a.k.a. it's mine now. I probably wear it waaayyy too much because 1) it's warm, 2) it covers anything that needs to be covered, and
3) it has pockets!
I had to really think about this one because I rarely wear blue! It dates back to my childhood...my sister has striking blue eyes (think: ocean) and mine are green. So, she often wore blue and I wore...green, of course. But I do have a vintage GAP jean jacket that is a staple throughout spring and fall.
I would like to explain the pink jeans...I did NOT leave the house with those tight jeans on! They are the kind that go on super-fitted and then stretch within the first hour. By the time I reach any destination, they are just right and by the time I come back home...they are huge!

We had a terrific first week back! Teachers had a PD day on Monday full of team meetings. How many "teams" are you on? I'm on the first grade team, SpEd team (vertical alignment), and leadership team. I'm probably also on some other teams I'm forgetting!
The students returned on Tuesday which coincided with a snowstorm. Every surrounding district canceled school, but we were there for the full day. If you want to hear more, just google Baltimore City Public Schools. Oh my, there were many angry families! It's going to be a long winter!
We had students trickling in at different times (or not at all) this week due to snow, ice, and windchill. It was tricky to teach new concepts that we will want to reteach for absent students. I snuck in A LOT of extra intervention time (yay!).
I pulled small groups to review Hide Zero using this freebie:
This game is magical - students feel successful while reinforcing an important skill. It also lends itself for polishing up our social skills...I let partner pairs "take over" running the game as soon as they're ready - HUGE confidence builder
(and a lot of fun)!
January is a busy time of regrouping and refocusing our efforts. We have SO much fresh data to analyze from all of our December testing. Not a fan of testing, but this data is AMAZING!
I'll be pulling a new 3rd grade group starting next week. Today I'll finish printing off the last of our NWEA and STEP assessment data to bring home this weekend. Saturday will be all about analyzing and looking for trends and then Sunday I'll be writing up our plan of action and choosing progress monitoring tools. Then Monday...watch out! I hope my students catch up on rest this weekend :)
Thank you so much for reading this post! I'm also linking up with Freebie Friday over at Teaching Blog Addict:
Have a wonderful weekend & stay warm!

Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Northern Virginia and still have many friends there who teach. I read all about the fiasco on Tuesday. They did that once while I was still living there. Apparently they didn't learn their lesson. :) I'm going to check out your freebie. Looks fun. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!
Joya :)
We had a similar angry parent event happen this week in Northern Michigan. It took students well over an hour past our normal start time to get to school. It really does make it hard to teach on those days. I definitely need to check out your freebie.
